I know I’m posting this blog on 1st April… but it’s for real!
California based Advanced Tactics Inc has completed the first successful trial of its Panther system – a drone that will take off, fly, land and then drive to make a delivery.
The small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) air/ground robot combines VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) with off-road driving capabilities and can carry a payload of up to 6.8 kg.
It’s like ‘Flirty meets Starship’ and potentially takes the whole drones vs robots story in a new direction.
Panther can fly like any other drone, land ‘a safe distance away’ from the its destination and then navigate on the ground even over rough terrain to deliver a package.
AT first began developing air/ground robot technology intended to aid US military forces ten years ago. In essence – AT’s Panther is a tiny, unmanned version of the AT Black Knight Transformer, a VTOL craft which is a cross between a Jeep, a helicopter and a drone.
